Maurice Voters Set a Turnout Record

Maurice voters have spoken, in greater numbers than ever before.

Tuesday’s municipal election on November 3 drew the highest number of votes ever cast in a Maurice election. More than 3,852 votes combined for the six alderman candidates were cast. The police chief election drew 1,000 votes combined. That record belongs to the citizens. Neighbors went to the polls and took an active part in choosing who will lead their town. It shows a community that cares about its own future. All four precincts reported, with 54.7% unofficial turnout according to the Louisiana Secretary of State.

MauriceToday.com congratulates everyone elected to serve.

The Results

  • Mayor: Neil Arsement begins his second term. He ran unopposed.
  • Chief of Police: John Dayries won the race, defeating incumbent Chief Guy Nerren.
  • Board of Aldermen:

    • Troy Catalon (incumbent)
    • Megan Landry-Lalande (incumbent)
    • Wayne Theriot (newly elected, former mayor)
    • Matthew Trahan (incumbent)
    • Scott Trahan (incumbent)

Experience and New Energy

Four incumbents return to the Board of Aldermen, so the work already under way will continue without interruption. Wayne Theriot joins them with long experience at town hall. He served three terms as mayor of Maurice, from 2011 to 2022. Before that, he served as an alderman for several years. His knowledge of how the town runs will be an asset to the board.
Chief-elect John Dayries now takes on the job of keeping Maurice safe. We wish him well as he takes office. We also thank Chief Guy Nerren for his years of service to the town and its families.

A Town That Shows Up

Small towns run on participation. Every vote cast on Tuesday helped Maurice’s government reflect the people it serves. The record turnout is a credit to every resident who made time to vote.
Congratulations to Mayor Arsement, Chief-elect Dayries and the Board of Aldermen. Maurice is counting on you. Judging by Tuesday, Maurice will be paying attention.
